Three elements of Fall Protection system: full-body safety harness, connecting parts, hanging points. All the three elements are indispensable. Full-body safety harness in worn by people working in height, with D-shaped ring for hanging at front chest or back. Some safety body harness contains a belt, which can be used for positioning, hanging tools and protecting waist. Connection parts include safety lanyards, safety lanyards with buffer, differential fall arrester etc. It is used to connect the safety lanyards and the hanging point. Its static tension is greater than 15KN. Hanging point is the force point of the whole set of fall protection system, which static tension should be greater than 15KN. You’d better follow a professional person when choosing a hanging point.
In the occasion of the use of fall protection system, it is necessary to evaluate fall factor. Fall factor = fall height / lanyard length. If the fall factor is equal to 0 (e.g. a worker pulling a rope under a connection point) or less than 1, and the freedom of movement is less than 0.6 meters, positioning equipment is sufficient. Fall protection systems must be used in other cases where the fall factor is greater than 1 or where the degree of freedom of movement is greater. The fall factor also shows that the whole fall protection system is about high hanging and low use.
How to use the safety harness correctly?
(1) Tighten the harness. The waist buckle components must be tied tightly and correctly;
(2) When doing the suspension work, do not hang the hook directly to the safety harness, hang it to the ring on the safety lanyards;
(3) Do not hang the safety harness to a component which in not firm or with sharp corner;
(4) Do not change components by yourself when use a same type of safety harness;
(5) Do not keep using a safety harness which has been impacted heavily, even if its appearance does not change;
(6) Do not use the safety harness to pass on heavy things;
(7) The safety harness should be hung at an upper firm place. Its height is not lower than the waist.
The safety harness must be fastened when doing construction work in the high cliff or steep slope without protection facilities. It should be hung high and use at a lower point and swing collision should be avoided. Otherwise, if the fall occurs, the impact force will be increased, thus danger will occur. Length of the safety lanyard is limited within 1.5~2.0 meters. A buffer should be added when using a long safety lanyard which is more than 3 meters. Do not knot the safety lanyards and hang the hook to a connecting ring instead of hanging it to the safety lanyards directly. Components on the safety belt shall not be removed arbitrarily. The safety harness should be inspected thoroughly after two years use. Before hanging safety lanyards an impact test should be conducted, with a 100 kg weight for drop test. If there is destroy after the test, that means that batch of safety harness can be continue to use. The lanyards which are used frequently must be checked frequently. If there is any abnormality the harness should be scrapped in advance. A new safety harness cannot be used only if there is a product inspection conformity certificate.
In order to ensure the safety of aerial work personnel during their movement, especially for extraordinary dangerous work, people should fasten all the fall protection equipment and hang on a safety lanyard. Do not use a hemp rope to make safety lanyard. One safety lanyard cannot be used by two people at the same time.
